Why do I get a "new login" notification when trying to login?
Explains the security notification triggered when logging in from a new device or location, and what to do if it wasn't you.
When you log in to Breadcrumb from a device, browser or network we have not seen before, we let you know. The message reads something like: "A new login for your account has been detected using Edge on Windows from IP address..."
This is a security check, not an error. It helps you spot anyone else logging in to your account. Because admins can see worker records and ID details, we want you to know every time your account is accessed from somewhere new.
What triggers the notification
You will see it when Breadcrumb does not recognise where the login is coming from. Common reasons:
- A new device or browser. For example, logging in on a new laptop, or switching from Chrome to Edge.
- A new network. Logging in from home, the site office or a mobile hotspot can each show a different IP address.
- A changing IP address. Some internet providers and company networks change your IP address regularly, so the same computer can look new to us.
- Private browsing. Incognito (Chrome) and InPrivate (Edge) windows do not keep your login, so every visit counts as a new one.
- Cleared cookies. Clearing your browser history or cookies removes the record that you have logged in before.
If it was you
You do not need to do anything. The notification is for your information only.
See it less often
- Tick "Keep me signed in" when you log in. Breadcrumb will remember you on that browser for up to 30 days. Only do this on your own device, never on a shared or public computer.
- Use a normal browser window, not Incognito or InPrivate.
- Keep the Breadcrumb tab open. For security, you are logged out after a period of inactivity or when the window is closed, unless "Keep me signed in" is ticked.
- Check your browser allows cookies for Breadcrumb. Some company IT settings block them, which stops your login being remembered.
Stuck in a login loop
If you keep being sent back to the login screen after the notification appears, tick "Keep me signed in" and log in again. If that does not work, clear your browser cookies and cache for Breadcrumb, then try once more.
If it was not you
Act straight away. Someone else may have your login details.
- Reset your password. On the login screen, select Forgot password and follow the steps. Choose a password you do not use anywhere else.
- Contact Breadcrumb Support. Let us know the date and time of the notification and the device or browser it mentioned. We can help check your account.
- Tell your company admin or IT team. They may want to check whether other accounts have been affected.
Can I turn the notification off?
Yes. Go to Notification settings, then Personal, and switch off the new login notification at the bottom of the list.
We recommend leaving it on. It is the quickest way to find out if someone else is using your account.
