What do I need to do on my first check-in?
What to expect the first time you check in to a new site, including any forms you will need to complete.
The first time you check in to a new site takes longer than usual, because you'll need to complete the site's induction and any other forms the head contractor requires. After that, checking in usually takes just a few taps.
Allow 10 to 20 minutes for your first check-in, or complete the induction before you arrive if you've been sent a link.
Before you arrive
- Download the app and log in: Set up the Breadcrumb app on your phone with your mobile number.
- Do your induction early: If your employer or the head contractor has sent you an offsite induction link or QR code, complete it before your first day.
- Have your licences and tickets handy: You may need to take photos of things like your White Card, high-risk work licence or trade tickets.
What happens on your first check-in
Scan the site QR code, or tap Check-In in the app and choose the site. You'll then be taken through the steps below. Not every site asks for all of them.
1. Choose who you're working for
Select your company from the list. This links you to your company's documents on the site, such as your SWMS.
2. Complete the site induction
Answer the induction questions, view any required videos or documents, and upload any photos the induction asks for. Once you've completed the induction, you usually won't need to do it again on this site until it expires.
Some sites need the site team to approve your induction before you're fully inducted.
3. Fill in any required profile details
Some sites ask for details such as your email address, date of birth or emergency contact, if they're not already on your profile.
4. Read and sign site documents
You may be asked to read and sign your company's SWMS and any active site briefings, such as the daily pre-start or a toolbox talk.
5. View site updates
The site team may have announcements for you to read, such as site rules or a safety video.
6. Finish checking in
Tap Check-in. You're now checked in to the site.
Next time you check in
On later visits, you'll usually only be asked to sign anything new, such as that day's pre-start or an updated SWMS. Remember to check out each time you leave site.
Good to know
- Each site is separate: Many head contractors have a separate induction for each site, so you may need to complete an induction again when you move to a new site.
- Made a mistake on your induction? Let the site team know. They can fix it or send it back to you to update.
- No phone? Ask the site team to check you in on their device, or use the site kiosk if there is one.
