I’ve been invited to Breadcrumb, what do I need to do?
What a foreman should expect and do after receiving a project invitation, from account setup to submitting required documents.
A head contractor uses Breadcrumb to manage who comes on their site and what safety paperwork is in place. If you've been invited, it means they want your company's documents and your crew's inductions sorted before you start work. This article walks you through what to do, in order.
The sooner you start, the smoother your first day on site will be.
1. Open your invite email
The invite comes by email from the head contractor and includes a link for their site. Depending on how they've set things up, the link lets you:
- Upload your company's safety documents, such as your SWMS and SDS.
- Complete an online induction before arriving.
- For some head contractors, apply for permits and register plant or equipment.
You don't always need a Breadcrumb account to use the link. If the head contractor has invited you to set up a company account, you'll be asked to choose your company name and verify your mobile number with an SMS code.
Can't find the email? Check your junk folder, or ask the site team to resend it.
2. Upload your company documents
Use the link to upload each document the head contractor has asked for, usually as a PDF. For documents that expire, such as an SDS or insurance certificate, enter the expiry date.
The site team reviews each document. You'll hear back if anything needs fixing. Upload early, because your crew can only sign your SWMS on site once it's approved.
3. Get your crew ready
Each worker who'll be on site needs to:
- Download the Breadcrumb app from the App Store or Google Play and create an account with their mobile number.
- Complete the site induction. If the invite included an offsite induction link or QR code, share it with your crew so they can do it before arriving. Otherwise, they'll complete it when they first check in.
- Have their licences and tickets handy. The induction may ask them to upload photos of things like their White Card or high-risk work licence.
4. Check in on your first day
When your crew arrives, they check in through the Breadcrumb app, by scanning the site QR code, or at the site kiosk. During check-in they may be asked to:
- Finish any induction questions they haven't completed.
- Read and sign your approved SWMS and any site briefings, such as the daily pre-start.
They should also check out when they leave site each day.
5. On site: permits and plant
If your work needs a permit, such as hot works or working at heights, apply for it in the app from the Permit tile once you're checked in. The site team reviews it before work can start.
If you're bringing plant or equipment to site, you may need to register it in the app so the site team can approve it.
