How do I sync companies from AutoDesk to Breadcrumb?

Pulling your Autodesk company directory into Breadcrumb.

Once your Autodesk Forma (formerly Autodesk Construction Cloud) account is connected to Breadcrumb, the companies in your Autodesk directory come across automatically. You don't need to add your subcontractors and suppliers again in Breadcrumb.

Companies sync at two levels: your whole company directory, and the companies on each connected project.

How company sync works

Your company directory

Companies in Hub Admin > Companies in Autodesk sync to your company list in Breadcrumb, so you can use them across all your sites.

These fields come across:

  • Company name becomes the company name in Breadcrumb.
  • ERP partner company ID becomes the Licence Number in Breadcrumb.

A company doesn't need an ERP partner company ID to sync.

Companies on a project

Companies added to a connected project in Project Admin > Companies are added to that site's supplier list in Breadcrumb. The project must already be syncing with Breadcrumb, which means Breadcrumb Dev is one of its project members.

Before your first sync: check for duplicates

Who: your Autodesk admin

Breadcrumb doesn't need a unique identifier, such as an ABN or NZBN, to match companies. That makes setup simpler, but it means any duplicates in Autodesk come across as duplicates in Breadcrumb. This is the biggest cause of a messy first sync.

  1. In Autodesk, go to Hub Admin > Companies.
  2. Look for the same company listed more than once, for example under slightly different names.
  3. Remove the extras: click the three dots next to the company, then Remove.

While you're there, check company names are spelt the way you want them to appear in Breadcrumb. Company details are copied across when the company first syncs. Changes you make to a company's name or details in Autodesk after that won't update in Breadcrumb.

Add a company to a site

Who: your Autodesk admin

  1. Open the project in Autodesk and go to Project Admin > Companies.
  2. Add the company to the project and save.

The company will appear on the site's supplier list in Breadcrumb on the next sync.

Companies you already have in Breadcrumb

If you were using Breadcrumb before you connected Autodesk, some companies may already exist in both. To stop them coming across as duplicates, each Breadcrumb company needs to be linked to its Autodesk record using the Autodesk company ID.

Contact your CSM before your first sync and they'll help you work through the list. Autodesk doesn't offer a way to export company IDs, so this is done one company at a time. Allow time for it if you have a lot of companies.

Troubleshooting

Duplicate companies appeared after the first sync

The duplicates already existed in Autodesk, or the company was already in Breadcrumb and wasn't linked. Remove or archive the duplicate in both systems:

  • Autodesk: go to Hub Admin > Companies, click the three dots next to the company, then Remove.
  • Breadcrumb: go to Companies, click the three dots next to the company, then Archive.

A company's name or details are out of date in Breadcrumb

Company details only come across on the first sync. Update the company in Breadcrumb directly. Documents and hours for that company will keep syncing as normal.

A company isn't showing on a site's supplier list

  • The company hasn't been added to the project in Project Admin > Companies.
  • The project isn't connected to Breadcrumb. Check that Breadcrumb Dev is a member of the project.
  • The company was only just added. Give it time to come across on the next sync.
