How do I submit a site briefing (e.g. pre-start or toolbox)?

Recording and distributing a daily prestart or toolbox talk.

Site briefings replace the paper sign-on sheet for your daily pre-start, toolbox talks and other briefings. You fill in the briefing once, and workers are prompted to read and sign it in the Breadcrumb app while it's active. You can submit a briefing from the web portal, which is easier for writing up and attaching documents, or from the mobile app on site.

Before you start

  • Access: You need to be a Company Host or Site Host. If you don't have access, contact your Breadcrumb administrator.
  • A briefing form for your site: Your company sets up briefing forms, such as "Daily Pre-Start" or "Toolbox Talk", and adds them to your site. If you don't see the form you need, ask your administrator.

Submit a briefing on web

  1. Click Sites in the left-hand menu and open your site.
  2. Click the Briefings tab.
  3. Click New Briefing.
  4. Choose a saved template, such as "Daily Pre-Start", or copy a recent briefing to start from its content.
  5. Fill in the briefing, for example the weather, the day's activities, any high-risk work or permits, and attach files if needed.
  6. Click Publish or schedule, then choose Publish now to make it live straight away.

You can click Save as draft at any point and come back to finish it later.

Schedule a briefing for later

To write a briefing ahead of time, for example tomorrow's pre-start, choose Schedule for later instead of Publish now.

  1. Set the Active from and Active until date and time.
  2. Choose how often it repeats: Once, Every weekday or Custom.
  3. Confirm to schedule it.

The briefing shows as scheduled on the Briefings tab and goes live automatically at the time you set.

Submit a briefing in the mobile app

  1. Open the Breadcrumb app and tap Host in the bottom right.
  2. Check you're on the right site. Tap Change Site if you need to switch.
  3. Tap the Site Briefings tile and choose the briefing form.
  4. Fill in the required fields. Tap Copy from Previous Version to start from your last briefing.
  5. Set the Valid Until date. Workers can sign the briefing until then.
  6. Tap Submit.

What workers see

Once a briefing is live, workers are notified and asked to read and sign it when they check in or out while the briefing is active. You can see how many workers have signed on the site's Briefings tab.

Good to know

  • One draft per site: A site can only hold one draft or scheduled briefing on web at a time. Scheduled briefings are stored as drafts, so starting a new draft replaces one that's already scheduled. A warning appears before this happens.
  • Scheduling must be turned on: Schedule for later only appears if the briefing form allows scheduling. If you don't see it, ask your administrator.
  • Auto-renewing briefings: Some briefings, like a daily pre-start, can renew automatically so a new version goes live when the old one expires. These show an Auto-Renew tag. Your administrator sets this up on the briefing form.
  • Templates: You can use your company's existing briefing templates. To create or change a template, contact your administrator.
  • Procore: If your site is connected to Procore, completed briefings can sync to Procore Documents.
