How do I start an emergency evacuation roll call?

Triggering a live roll call to confirm everyone on site is accounted for during an emergency.

In an emergency or a drill, Breadcrumb gives you a live roll call of everyone checked in to your site. You tick people off as they reach the muster point, so you can see straight away who is still unaccounted for.

Evacuations are run from the Breadcrumb mobile app. Make sure the app is installed and you're logged in before you need it.

Before you start

You need to be a Company Host or Site Host with host permissions for the site. If you don't have access, contact your Breadcrumb administrator.

Step 1: Start the evacuation

  1. Open the Breadcrumb app and tap Host.
  2. Check you're on the right site. Tap Change Site if you need to switch.
  3. Tap Evacuation, then New Evacuation.
  4. Choose Emergency or Drill. Both work the same way. The choice only changes how the evacuation is labelled in your records.
  5. Leave Send Site Alert turned on to notify everyone on site.

Step 2: Alert everyone on site

If Send Site Alert is on, you're asked to send a message to everyone currently checked in to the site.

  1. Choose SMS or Push Notification. We recommend SMS, because many workers turn off push notifications.
  2. Type a short, clear message, for example "Emergency evacuation. Leave site now and go to the muster point at the main gate."
  3. Send the alert.

Step 3: Mark people as accounted for

The roll call lists everyone checked in to the site when you started the evacuation.

  • Tick each person as they arrive at the muster point.
  • Add someone who isn't on the list, such as a visitor who didn't check in, by tapping Add Person. You can enter their details or look them up in the User Directory.
  • Contact someone who's missing by tapping the three dots next to their name to call or text them.

Step 4: Finish the roll call

  1. Tap Notes to record anything important, such as the reason for the evacuation or where missing people were found.
  2. Tap Finalise to complete the evacuation, or Save to keep working on it.

After you've submitted, you can still use the three-dot menu to add people, send another alert, add notes or view the log.

Good to know

  • Mobile app only: You can't start or run an evacuation on web. Use the web portal to review past evacuations and download records afterwards.
  • Run drills regularly: Practising with a drill means your site team knows exactly where to find the evacuation tool when it matters.
  • Accurate check-ins matter: The roll call is only as good as your attendance list. Make sure everyone on site checks in, including visitors and delivery drivers.
