How do I send an SMS (site alert) to all workers on my site?
Broadcasting an urgent text message to everyone currently checked in.
A site alert sends a text message or push notification to every worker currently checked in to your site. Use it when you need to reach everyone quickly, for example a weather shutdown, a change to site access, a crane lift in progress or an urgent safety notice.
Before you start
- Access: You need to be a Company Host or Site Host. If you don't have access, contact your Breadcrumb administrator.
- Who receives it: Only workers who are checked in to the site when you send the alert. Anyone who has checked out, or hasn't checked in yet, won't receive it.
Send a site alert on web
- Click Host in the left-hand menu.
- Select Send Push Notification from the dropdown.
- Choose SMS or Push Notification.
- Select your site. Choose All Sites instead if the message applies to every site.
- Type your message and click Send Message.
Send a site alert in the mobile app
- Open the Breadcrumb app and tap Host in the bottom right.
- Check you're on the right site. Tap Change Site to switch, or choose All Sites.
- Tap the Site Alert tool.
- Choose SMS or Push Notification.
- Type your message and tap Send.
SMS or push notification?
We recommend SMS for anything urgent. Many workers turn off push notifications on their phone, so a push notification may not be seen. A text message reaches their phone regardless of their app settings.
Tips for a clear alert
- Lead with the action: Say what workers need to do first, for example "Stop work and move to the muster point".
- Name the site: Workers may be on more than one of your sites over a week, so include the site name.
- Keep it short: One or two sentences is easier to read on a phone, especially for an SMS.
Good to know
- Evacuations: When you start an evacuation or drill for a site, you're prompted to send a site alert at the same time.
- Read receipts: You can't see whether a worker has opened a site alert.
- Alert history: Company Hosts can find sent alerts in the Audit Report on web, which shows when each alert was sent, who sent it, the site, the type and the message. It doesn't list recipients. To see who received an alert, check who was checked in at that time in Live Attendance or the Activity Report.
