How do I close out a permit?
Formally ending an active permit once the associated work is complete.
When the work covered by a permit is finished, close the permit. Closing it records that the work is complete and the area has been left safe, and stops the permit being used again.
Closing is final. A closed permit can't be reopened. If more work is needed, the subcontractor will need to apply for a new permit. If work is only pausing, for example overnight, put the permit on hold instead.
Before you start
- Access: You need to be a Company Host or Site Host. If you don't have access, contact your Breadcrumb administrator.
- Check the work area: Some permits include a close form, for example to confirm the area is clean, safe and free of hazards. Have this information ready, and if you're closing in the app, be on site so you can check the area and take photos if the form asks for them.
Close a permit in the mobile app
- Open the Breadcrumb app and tap Host in the bottom right.
- Check you're on the right site. Tap Change Site if you need to switch.

- If a close form appears, complete it.

The permit no longer appears in the list of approved permits.

Good to know
- On hold first: Some permits must be put On Hold before they can be closed. If you don't see the Close option, check the permit's status and put it on hold first.
- The closed permit is kept: Closing doesn't delete anything. The permit and its close form stay in your permit records and can be downloaded as a PDF.
