How do I assign one of my workers to a permit?

Adding a worker to an active permit so they are covered to perform the permitted work.

If you're a foreman, you can add the workers in your crew to a permit so the record shows exactly who is doing the permitted work. Each worker signs on your phone, and the permit is saved to their own record as well as yours.

Before you start

  • You need to be a foreman: The head contractor's site team must nominate you as a foreman for your company on their site, with permission to add crew to permits. If you don't see the option, ask the site team.
  • You need to be checked in: Your foreman options only work while you're checked in to the site.
  • Your crew must be from your company: You can only add workers who are on site under the same company as you.
  • Have your crew nearby: Each worker signs on your phone, so they'll need to be with you.

Add crew to a permit

  1. Open the Breadcrumb app and open the permit you're working on.
  2. Tap Add Crew. You'll see a searchable list of workers on site under your company.
  3. Tick each worker who is part of this work.
  4. Pass your phone to each worker so they can sign.
  5. Once everyone has signed, tap Save.

The workers now appear on the permit by name.

What this means for your crew

  • Covered by the permit: Each worker you add is recorded against the permit, with their signature.
  • On their own record: The permit shows up in each worker's history, so the site team and auditors can find it by searching for that worker.
  • No notification: Workers aren't sent a notification when you add them, so let them know.

Good to know

  • Removing someone: You can remove a worker from a permit before it's finalised.
  • Workers must be checked in to sign: If the permit requires signatures, the workers you add need to be checked in to the site.
  • Every change is logged: Your name and the time are recorded whenever you add someone, so the record is always clear.
  • Foreman access is per site: If you work across several of the head contractor's sites, you'll need to be nominated as a foreman on each one.
