Can I create a company in Breadcrumb and link it to a Procore company later?

Whether a company can be created independently in Breadcrumb and connected to a Procore company afterwards.

Yes. You can add a supplier (subcontractor company) in Breadcrumb first and link it to a Procore company later. Breadcrumb links the two automatically once both records have the same ABN.

This is useful when you need a subcontractor on site in Breadcrumb straight away, for example to collect their SWMS or induct their workers, before your Procore Directory is set up.

How the link works

Procore is the main record for your companies, and company details flow from Procore into Breadcrumb. When Breadcrumb syncs, it looks for a Procore company with the same ABN as each supplier:

  • ABNs match: the existing supplier in Breadcrumb is linked to the Procore company. No duplicate is created.
  • ABN is missing or different: Breadcrumb cannot tell they are the same company, so you end up with two suppliers.

When a supplier is linked, the Procore logo shows next to it in Breadcrumb.

Link an existing Breadcrumb supplier to Procore

  1. Add the ABN in Breadcrumb. Open the supplier in your Breadcrumb supplier directory and check its business details include the correct ABN. Add it if it is missing.
  2. Create the company in Procore with the same ABN. In Procore, go to Company Tools > Directory > Companies, add the company, and enter the ABN in the Entity Type field.
  3. Add the company to the project. Add it to the Project Directory for each Procore project it works on. This is what puts it on the matching site in Breadcrumb.
  4. Wait for the sync. The link is made on the next sync. Check for the Procore logo next to the supplier in Breadcrumb.

If the company already exists in Procore, skip step 2. Just make sure its ABN matches the one in Breadcrumb exactly.

New Zealand companies

Use the License Number field in Procore instead of Entity Type. Enter the same number on the supplier in Breadcrumb. It can be an NZBN or any other identifier, as long as it is unique and has no spaces.

If the company is not in Breadcrumb yet

Add it in Procore rather than creating it in Breadcrumb. Once it has an ABN and is in the Project Directory, it syncs across to Breadcrumb already linked. This is the simplest way to avoid duplicates.

Avoid duplicate suppliers

  • Use each ABN only once in your Procore Company Directory. Two Procore companies with the same ABN can cause the wrong one to link.
  • Do not create the same company in both Breadcrumb and Procore without an ABN on both.
  • Avoid changing a company's ABN in Procore after it has linked. This can break the link or move it to a different company.

Can't see the Entity Type field?

Procore hides it by default. A Procore admin can switch it on under Company Tools > Admin > Directory > Directory Template.
